FAQS
1. What is a linen scarf?
A linen scarf is a lightweight wrap or shawl made from linen, a natural fiber derived from the flax plant. Linen is highly breathable, strong and moisture-wicking, making it particularly well-suited for warm weather. Linen scarves can be worn draped over the shoulders, belted as a wrap, used as a beach cover-up or tied at the neck. They are one of the most versatile summer accessories.
2. Are linen scarves good for summer?
Yes. Linen is one of the best fabrics for summer. It is naturally breathable, absorbs moisture and releases it quickly, and feels cool against the skin even in warm temperatures. A linen scarf provides coverage and elegance without adding heat, making it ideal for outdoor events, travel and warm evenings.
3. What is a linen shawl?
A linen shawl is a larger linen wrap typically worn over the shoulders or around the body. Like linen scarves, linen shawls are lightweight and breathable. In the Maneesha Ruia collection, linen shawls often feature handcut lace borders, handpainted detailing or ombre dyeing, designed to work as both a functional cover-up and a statement accessory.
4. How do I wear a linen wrap?
A linen wrap is incredibly versatile. Drape it loosely over your shoulders as a shawl, belt it at the waist over a dress or trousers to resemble a jacket, fold and tie it at the neck as a scarf, or use it as a sarong at the beach. The supple drape of linen and modal means it holds whatever shape you give it, shifting from casual to formal depending on how you style it.
5. How are linen scarves made?
Linen is woven from yarn spun from flax plant fibers. At Maneesha Ruia, linen scarves for women are handcrafted by Indian artisans using GOTS-approved fabric and AZO-free dyes. Finishing techniques include handcut lace borders, handpainting, ombre dyeing, faux leather applique and pearl embellishment, all applied by hand, making each piece individual.
6. How do I care for a linen scarf?
Linen scarves can generally be hand washed in cool or lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Linen softens with each wash. Lay flat or hang to dry and avoid tumble drying if possible, as heat can shrink the fabric. For styles with handcut lace borders, handpainted finishes or embellishments, dry cleaning is recommended to preserve the detailing.
7. What is modal fabric?
Modal is a fabric made from beech tree pulp. It is known for its exceptional softness, silky drape and moisture-wicking properties. In the Linen and Modal collection, modal is blended with linen, and in some styles with cashmere or silk, to add softness and fluidity to the structure that pure linen provides on its own.
